I'm so glad someone shared a link to one of their videos with me-- they are really amazing, and have some outstanding videos (as in, "out standing in a field " . . .). Some examples of locations they have used (and somehow brought a grand piano into) have been a large area of sand dunes, a wooded area of Bryce Canyon National Park (Utah), the top of a rugged sandstone cliff jutting out over a vast valley far below.
Most of their collaborative pieces are covers of popular songs, and there are also a few original compositions.
The main performers are Jon Schmidt (piano) and Steven Sharp Nelson (cello), with some guest singers joining in for some of the songs with vocals. Also, member Tel Stewart, the piano store musical employee, has lent his talent for singing.
The piece I'd like to feature here is not in any of the wilderness locations . . . this one was done on a stage, hours before a scheduled concert. I really enjoyed watching this video because it is so unique. There are 5 "Piano Guys" playing all on the same piano (besides Jon and Steven and Tel, the other two members are Paul Anderson, the piano store owner, and Al Vander Beek, the songwriter-producer). The way they are playing is not at all the usual way . . . just watch, and you'll see what I mean . . .
Want to see some more unbelievable Piano Guys performances? They do have a concert schedule on their website, and also have many more videos. If you like the piece above, please pass this on-- beautiful music like this amazing piano quintet should be shared :)
